At our main facility:
Acute Care
Patients recovering from medical illness, injury, or surgery are cared
for in the Acute Care Unit. While observing and evaluating changes in
physical condition, administrating medications or changing dressings,
our nursing staff strives to provide professional care with a personal
touch. We also offer advanced heart monitoring for patients with cardiac
conditions and pain management services to make the patients stay
in the hospital as comfortable as possible.

Rehab
Our Cardiac Rehab Department offers a comprehensive exercise and education
program designed for individuals with heart disease who have experienced
problems such as chest pains, heart attack, or bypass surgery.

Education
CPR classes are available on a regular basis to the community. Other health
education programs on a variety of topics are scheduled throughout the
year.

Emergency
Department
Our Emergency Department is staffed by friendly, on-site physicians and
registered nurses 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our staff treats your
immediate health needs from minor to serious illness or injury. Our doctors
and nurses are certified in Advance Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma
Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support, or equivalent. When
necessary, we stabilize patients with special needs and coordinate emergency
transport via ambulance or helicopter to a more specialized facility.

Extended
Care Facility
War Memorial Hospital operates a 16-bed unit providing intermediate care.
Our staff provides personalized, restorative nursing care in a home-like
atmosphere, a variety of recreational and social activities, and special
seasonal events and activities to make each residents stay as beneficial
and enjoyable as possible.

Health Agency
The Home Health Agency at War Memorial Hospital offers a wide range of
services that allow patients to have many of their healthcare needs met
in the comfort of their own homes, whether learning how to live with an
illness, adjusting to new medication, or recovering from an accident or
surgery. Our staff provides skilled nursing care, physical therapy, occupational
therapy, speech therapy, medical social work, and assistance with personal
care needs.

Laboratory
Our licensed medical technologists and technicians perform complete blood
analysis, including emergency cardiac, liver, and renal profiles, drug
monitoring, DNA collection, and a large menu of routine testing 24 hours
a day. Our Laboratory provides drug screening services for local businesses
as well as services to other area healthcare facilities and physician
offices.

Occupational
Health
War Memorial Hospital's Occupational Health Services program provides
cost effective and timely services to meet the work-related healthcare
needs of employees from work-related exams and screenings to work-related
injuries. Services include OSHA and/or company-required health screenings
and services such as physical examinations, vision screenings, hearing
screenings, breath alcohol testing, urine drug screenings, pulmonary function
screenings, etc. The program is staffed by a physician and certified occupational
health nurse specialist.

Occupational
Therapy
The Occupation Therapy Department assists patients who have had a recent
illness or injury that interferes with their ability to perform basic
daily activities such as eating, dressing, and bathing or more advanced
living skills such as home and financial management. Our occupational
therapists evaluate the need for adaptive/assistive equipment and train
patients in the use of these devices. Our therapists have specialized
knowledge to address deficits in movement, strength, coordination, thinking
skills, and vision, which interfere with daily living skills. Treatments
are provided for orthopedic hand injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome
and crush injuries; neurologic deficits such as stroke, visual deficits,
cognitive deficits, and difficulties with self-care.

Pain
Clinic
War Memorial's Pain Clinic offers lumbar epidural steroid injections as
one treatment option for patients who have been experiencing intractable
pain in their lower back.

Physical
Therapy
Our Physical Therapy Department evaluates and treats individuals who are
affected by disabilities due to disease, trauma, or dysfunction. Our therapists
create an individualized treatment plan to help decrease pain, increase
mobility and function, and prevent further injury. Treatments are provided
for orthopedic injuries such as sprains, back pain, and joint pain; wound
care due to diabetes or trauma; neurologic impairments such as stroke,
paraplegia, and balance dysfunction; and lower extremity prosthetic use
due to amputation.

Radiology
The Radiology Department offers imaging studies such as conventional radiology
including tomography and fluoroscopy, mammography, ultrasound, CT, nuclear
medicine, and bone densitometry studies to diagnose a wide range of illness
and injuries. In addition to our regular hours, conventional radiology
is offered 24 hours a day for emergencies. All interpretations are rendered
by a radiologist.

Respiratory
Therapy/Cardiopulmonary Services
Our staff assesses patients cardiopulmonary status and provides
appropriate testing and therapy to assist with breathing and adequate
cardiopulmonary function. The department also offers EKGs, 24-hour
holter monitoring and state-of-the-art echocardiography with exercise
and non-exercise stress testing.

Skilled
Care
Our Skilled Care Unit offers ongoing medical management by a physician
specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. This unit provides
24-hour nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy,
social services, and patient/family education for individuals who have
experienced a recent physical disability due to disease, dysfunction,
or general debilitation. We help patients maximize their abilities through
activities of daily living, mobility, self-medication, and self-care and
restore their ability to return to their previous lifestyle.

Bureau
Hospital staff members are available to provide updates on the hospital
and its services as well as health education programs to schools and community
organizations.

Services
Physicians specializing in dermatology, ophthalmology, podiatry, and urology
are available on a weekly basis at War Memorial Hospital to make these
medical services more convenient for local residents. Womens health
and pregnancy services are also available on a biweekly basis on War Memorial
Hospitals campus.

Speech/Language
Pathology
Our Speech/Language Pathology Department helps individuals who have difficulties
or delays in speech fluency, oral-motor skills, articulation, and language
skills. Our speech language pathologists also have specialized knowledge
to assist patients and their families with swallowing and communication
needs that have been affected by illness or injury.

Support
Groups
The Coping with Challenges Support Group meets on Tuesdays
at 3 p.m. at the hospital. The group is designed for individuals who have
experienced a change in their lifestyle due to a health problem.

Group, sponsored by the American Cancer Society of Morgan County, meets
the first Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. at the hospital.

The Morgan County Diabetes Education and Support Group meets the first
Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the hospital. The group is designed
for diabetic patients, family, members, and caregivers.

Surgical
Services
War Memorials Surgical Services offers a range of inpatient and
outpatient surgical procedures from laparoscopic gallbladder surgery,
hernia repairs, abdominal surgery and breast biopsies to cataract surgery
and gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. With the help of our staff,
patients can have their surgery, from pre-op education through anesthesia
and recovery, and have a short ride home.

Wellness
Services
Our Emergency Department offers free blood pressure screenings every Wednesday
from 9-11 a.m
War Memorial conducts
free health screenings such as blood cholesterol and blood glucose each
fall at the annual Morgan County Health Fair and also sponsors the annual
Morgan County Childrens Safety Fair in June. Hospital staff also
participates in various community health-oriented events and activities
throughout the year.

Outpatient Rehabilitation Services:
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy & Speech/Language Pathology. Our therapists design individual treatment programs aimed at optimizing function, decreasing pain, and increasing mobility.
Physical Therapy services include evaluation, treatment, and education for orthopedic injuries and joint replacements, neck and back injuries, balance disorders, and neurological impairments such as stoke and Parkinson’s as well as appropriate use of assistive devices for walking and wheelchair seating and positioning needs.
Occupational Therapy services include evaluation, treatment, and education for deficits in performing activities of daily living like dressing and bathing, functional deficits due to orthopedic injuries, deficits due to neurological diagnoses such as stroke and multiple sclerosis, and visual impairments as well as appropriate use of assistive devices for improving self-care, work, and leisure activities. Driving rehabilitation screenings are also preformed.
Speech/Language Pathology services include evaluation and treatment for speech, language, and swallowing deficits as well as instruction with specialized communication systems and swallowing studies with appropriate diet recommendations. Wellness Services:
Personal Training & Fitness; Pool Services
These programs are designed for individuals who want to improve their health and wellness.
Personal Training and Fitness program participants work one-on-one with an exercise physiologist who designs an individualized workout program to meet their physical needs. Participants receive an initial fitness assessment, health risk analysis with interpretive results, and utilize a variety of cardiovascular and strength training equipment. Monthly fitness membership fee applies.
Pool Services include pool physical therapy and community pool program. Our therapeutic pool is shallow in depth and maintained at a temperature of 90 degrees F. Community pool program includes aquatics arthritis class for individuals with joint limitations or pain and emphasizes increasing the range of motion and strengthening of muscle groups and toning class for individuals who want to increase muscle tone, strength, and range of motion through water fitness, water weights, and resistive devices. Open exercise class, which is great for water walking, self-paced exercise, or relaxation, is also available. Monthly pool membership fee applies.
